As many parents probably do, I sometimes have a tendency to get a bit carried away and make broad declarations, especially when it comes to disciplinary matters. There are many times when I proclaim how things will be if my rules aren’t followed. Often, as soon as the words are out of my mouth, I regret it because I’ve now painted myself into that parental corner. Don’t follow through with the threat and the Little Man will know I’m full of it. I came across this great clip from ABC’s Modern Family that demonstrates exactly what I do. I hope you enjoy:
I’ve never gone as far to cancel Christmas, but who knows what I’m capable of in the heat of the moment. Fortunately there are no videos of me (that I’m aware of) making such proclamations.

MF is awesome.. I actually did the dirty dishes thing with my son. It worked about as well as on this clip..
But with most of my kids under five.. I’ve threatened to call santa if they were being bad.
It usually allowed them to straighten up..
